Yes, 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet has been seen again! This time with even less camouflage.

  In spite of the black and white swirls and lines, some things are for sure. There is no more that fake, whale tail spoiler on the back side, no more big rear bumper add-ons, and no more those etiquettes on the front grille. The new E-Class is about to look a lot like in the middle of smaller C-Class Cabriolet and larger S-Class Cabriolet. Well, if it’s a Mercedes, then it should look like one, right? That is the reason for continuing the company’s design for cars with two doors.

Knowing that the current versions of E-Class coupe and cabriolet have the platform of the previous C-Class, there is a change for the 2017 model. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class will actually be supported by the same platform that the E-Class sedan and wagon are using, which is logical.

As for the interior, newest photographs taken don’t show much. What we can rely on is the interior previously spotted in May. So we predict that there won’t be huge changes when it comes to styling and features inside the car.
When it comes to the base powertrains of the cabriolet, Mercedes will probably use the existing engine versions that are used for sedan and wagon. Those would be a 135kW/300Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged gasoline unit (E200), 143kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel (E220d) and another 2.0-litre turbo petrol (E300) developing 180kW and 370Nm. Of course, if 2.0 is not enough, there are always bigger solutions. You can choose between a 190kW/620Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel (E350d) and the 245kW/480Nm 3.0-litre twin-turbo gasoline (E400) as the strongest version available. All of these will have an automatic transmission with nine gears

Of course, the model to admire the most when it comes to E-Class is AMG E63. We have seen a brochure that leaked from Russia and, we must say, watch out! The AMG E63 model will produce 420 kW and 750 Nm from the new Mercedes-Benz 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, while the even hotter E63 S will have an output of 450 kW and 850Nm. The AMG E63 will be able to sprint from 0-100km/h in just 3.7 seconds. In addition, the version with the S sign will be completing the same task in impressive 3.5 seconds! The coupe is expected to have similar results, but in some cases, it is logical that the top-off model will have 0.1 or 0.2 seconds slower time. Its car body is a bit different because of the roof mechanism and it is heavier due to the folding roof. That’s not all. There will also be an AMG E43 version. It will be powered by a 295kW/520Nm 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6. This engine in the E-Class needs only 4.6 seconds to reach 100km/h speed.

However, the Tesla Model S Sedan andModel X SUV top that by far and these two vehicles can reach a gas-free commuting level of 437 km and in some cases even more. Tesla has presented Model 3 Concept this summer and already hundreds of thousands of people have pre-order it. More people consider that an electric car is a great way to get rid of gas pumps. Although the Model 3 hasn’t reached the production line yet, the interest to buy this car has gone through the roof. But, is investing a large amount of money going to pay off eventually? How does it behave on the road?

Top of the range Tesla Model S takes only 2.6 seconds in a 0 to 100km/h run. Just for comparison, the Lamborghini Aventador SV has the same result. What is specific for electric motors is that they can cater full power right away, and do all that without being too loud.

 

The price

The Model S P90D costs $132,000 without any additional options, so yes, the car is expensive. The car that was tested had many upgrades and optional equipment, and its price was stunning $197,500. The cheapest trim – the Model S 60 comes at $75,000 which is still a lot of money for average people. Is it profitable in the long term? We used a CAA Electric Vehicle Cost Calculator, and if you drive Model S P90D for 20,000 km, you will spend $1,024 per year. To get a general idea, we compared Model S to a Honda Civic for which you would have to set aside about $1,870 for fuel on a yearly basis. But can these two really compare?

Charging the car

The car comes with the adapters that will allow you to charge your vehicle at home. They use a standard 110-volt outlet, but that takes too much time to recharge. For example, if the battery on P90D is completely depleted, you will have to wait more than 82 hours for it to go back to full. Even after you drive only 80km it takes more than 15 hours to recharge it.

Hopefully, there will be more of these stations in the future. The simplest way would be to install a 240-volt outlet which is efficient, and your battery would be full in less than eight hours.

Not only is it going to have even better range than anyone expected, it’s actually fun to drive, as I found out this week when I tested a pre-production model. It’s no Tesla Model S, but that’s not bad, because it costs tens of thousands of dollars less.

Indeed, the Bolt looks like it will be the first practical EV, offering not only an affordable price, but enough range to meet most everyone’s day-to-day needs. What’s more, the car, which is due out later this year, has the chance to spark the industry, luring more people into electric vehicles while spurring manufacturers to make better ones.

“This is a good thing for the EV movement,” said Gabriel Shenhar, a Consumer Reports program manager who focuses on electric vehicles

Chevy shocked the car industry earlier this week when it announced the Environmental Protection Agency has estimated the Bolt will have a range of 238 miles on a full charge. The company had said it was planning to hit a 200-mile target, but few expected the car would go as far as the EPA says it will.

The Bolt appears to have gotten the jump on Tesla. The Palo Alto electric car maker sparked lots of excitement and garnered hundreds of thousands of reservations when it unveiled its upcoming Model 3 earlier this year. With a 215-mile range and a $35,000 price tag, that car had been poised to be the first practical electric car for the masses. But it’s not due out until next year.

After test driving the Bolt, I doubt Tesla fans will regret waiting another year for the Model 3, because the Bolt lacks some of the Model 3’s expected pizzazz. But if you’re interested in an affordable all-electric vehicle, and you want one sooner rather than later, the Bolt is easily the best on the market right now.

Its range alone puts it over the top, of course. Electric vehicles have had to contend with potential customers’ range anxiety issues for years now. Those fears tend to be overblown, because most people won’t exhaust the batteries of even the shortest-range electric cars on a daily basis.

But their curtailed range does limit how users can drive electric cars and requires them to do more planning than they would with a gasoline car. It can be more difficult for EVs to accommodate unexpected errands or an impulse trip to the countryside.

The Bolt helps to relieve the anxiety and better accommodate unexpected trips. A 238-mile range will get you from San Jose to South Lake Tahoe with a few miles to spare; it’s more than enough for the daily commuting and errand running done by the vast majority of people.

But the Bolt is attractive for more than just it range. For one thing, it’s a zippy car. Chevy says it will go from 0 to 60 in about 7 seconds. That’s not sports-car fast, but it’s plenty peppy. It’s also quiet and nimble.

Chevy is packing the Bolt with many of its latest electronics and technological advancements. It’s got a 14-inch infotainment center display and is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple’s CarPlay. It has a built-in LTE antenna, which owners can use to create a mobile hotspot for tablets and phones. Owners will also have the option to add several semiautonomous features to the Bolt, including lane-keeping assistance technology and automatic braking.

There is not a whole lot of information about Cyberpunk 2077 now so all we can do is wait until more details arrive.

Wall Street rallies as Fed officials ease rate hike fears

U.S. stocks were heading for their strongest session since July on Monday after Federal Reserve Board Governor Lael Brainard stuck to her dovish stance on interest rates and urged caution about removing monetary stimulus too quickly.

Brainard's speech followed earlier comments by Atlanta Fed Bank President Dennis Lockhart and his Minneapolis counterpart Neel Kashkari in which they suggested there was no urgency to raise benchmark U.S. rates.

"Today's new normal counsels prudence in the removal of policy accommodation," said Brainard, a permanent voting member and the last official scheduled to speak ahead of the Fed's policy-setting meeting on Sept. 20-21.

Traders trimmed their views on the likelihood of a September rate hike to 15 percent from 24 percent on Friday and for a December hike to 54.5 percent from 59.2 percent, according to the CME Group's FedWatch tool.

Fears of a September rate hike had sent the three major U.S. stock indexes tumbling on Friday in their worst decline since Britain's June 23 'Brexit' vote to leave the European Union.

At 2:11 pm (1811 GMT), the Dow Jones industrial average .DJI was up 1.07 percent at 18,279.15 points and the S&P 500 .SPX had gained 1.22 percent to 2,153.72.

The Nasdaq Composite .IXIC added 1.39 percent to 5,197.36.

After Friday's selloff, the S&P 500 is trading near 17 times expected earnings, above its 10-year average of 14, according to Thomson Reuters Datastream.

High valuations are a risk, but they do not mean stocks are likely to fall in the short term, said Brad McMillan, chief investment officer for Commonwealth Financial in Waltham, Massachusetts.

But pressure continues to build for a rate increase before the end of the year. A few hours before Ms. Brainard spoke, Dennis Lockhart, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, said the Fed should have a “serious discussion” about raising rates, though he added it was not urgent for the Fed to act in September.

Janet L. Yellen, the Fed’s chairwoman, will preside over an increasingly fractious policy-making committee. Ms. Yellen, seeking common ground, said in an August speech that the case for a rate increase had become stronger in recent months, but she stopped short of saying that it was time to raise rates.

Ms. Brainard’s speech was highly anticipated by investors because it was the last scheduled statement by a Fed official before the September meeting. The Fed imposes a blackout period before its meetings, held roughly every six weeks. On Friday, the stock market took a sharp hit on fears that the Fed and other central banks might be moving to slightly more restrictive monetary policies.

For the most part, however, Ms. Brainard reiterated her longstanding views.

She said that inflation remains weak, and that the labor market continues to heal.

“In the presence of uncertainty and the absence of accelerating inflationary pressures, it would be unwise for policy to foreclose on the possibility of making further gains in the labor market,” she said, according to her remarks.

Ms. Brainard is delivering the speech to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.

She added that the context in which the Fed operates also has changed. A global decline in market interest rates means that the force of the Fed’s stimulus campaign has been reduced even without a rate increase. Moreover, she noted that the weakness of the global economy continues to weigh on the United States, contributing to an environment of persistently low growth and low inflation.

Ms. Brainard said she remains more concerned about moving too quickly than waiting too long. That is because the Fed has limited tools to ward off economic weakness, but it has considerable scope to prevent excessive inflation.

Rocket League' 1.22 Update Released: Rumble Mode,

The new 3v3 Rumble mode, which was announced by the Rocket League developer last month, is a free addition to the game that incorporates 11 power-ups that players can utilize to their advantage. Among the power-ups that players can pick up in Rumble mode are the Boot, which kicks an opponent's car; the Grappling Hook, which pulls the player toward the ball; the Magnetizer, which attracts the ball to the player's car; and the Tornado, which sweeps the ball and opponents into a giant tornado.

Rumble mode is now live with the release of update 1.22, so players can start getting crazy with the power-ups.

In addition to the new mode, the update released two new features that are said to be among the most popular requests by the Rocket League community. The first such feature is Party Chat, which will allow players to send messages to all the members of a party. Party Chat can be accessed while in the game or while going through the game's menus, with the messages delivered to party members whether they are in a game or not.

The second feature, which is even more requested compared with party chat, is the Car Preset option, which will offer players up to 10 slots for saving car loadout configurations. The Car Preset option will also allow gamers to save their vehicle customizations on a per team basis, with options to equip to blue and equip to orange. Zelda Williams, the daughter of the late comedian Robin Williams, has taken on a very dark role for her next project. She stars in Girl in the Box, the new Lifetime movie that debuts on the network on Saturday, September 10 at 8 p.m. ET. Read on to learn about the movie and other opportunities to watch it.

Girl in the Box is based on the story of Colleen Stan, a woman who was held in captivity from 1977 to 1984. She was hitchhiking to a friends party when Cameron and Janice Hooker drew by. She agreed to go with them because they also had a child in the car. However, after driving for a while, Cameron Hooker pulled off the road and locked Stan in a wooden box.

When they arrived at the Hookers’ home, she had to sign a contract and became Cameron’s sex slave. He used her to live out bondage fantasies and forced her to sleep in a wooden box. In 1984, Stan finally escaped and later Janice Hooker reported her husband to police. Janice Hooker testified against her husband in the trial.

The main cast for the movie includes Addison Timlin as Stan, Zane Holtz as Cameron Hooker and Williams as Janice Hooker. Stephen Kemp made his writing and directing debut with the film.

Colleen Stan lived in a box under her captor's bed, was the target of his sadistic fantasies and psychologically tortured by a contract she was forced to sign giving him all rights to her body. A movie based on her experiences will air on Lifetime this Saturday.

 

“Girl in the Box” stars Zelda Williams, the daughter of the late Robin Williams and Addison Timlin as Colleen Stan. I traveled to Red Bluff to talk to Stan about the movie and life after her captivity.

The case is decades old but the horror of what happened to Colleen Stan has not diminished. 

In 1977, Colleen Stan was 20 years old. She was hitchhiking up I-5 and was picked up by a young couple, they had a baby with them. Colleen thought they looked safe.

"The husband looked dirty, like he had just gotten off work, the wife was holding their 7-month-old baby," Colleen remembered. 

Once in the car, the couple drove into the country. Colleen was overpowered, handcuffed and a homemade box was put over her head. She was taken to this home in Red Bluff where she was led to the basement. Instruments of torture were waiting.

I first heard of Colleen Stan's story when I was a reporter at the ABC affiliate in Redding, I tried to find her, but she didn't want to be found and people didn't leave digital footprints like they do today.  Flash forward 20 years after Jaycee Dugard was found, I started to look for Colleen again.  I found a posting on an obscure website under a pseudonym. There was just enough detail to lead me to believe it might be her. I reached out, she reached back and after talking for about a week, she agreed to an interview. That was 2009.

"I have it set up to record," Colleen said when I asked her if she was going to watch the movie. "I may watch it that night, a couple of my friends have said they'll come over and watch it with me. One is my psychiatrist and he said he'd come over and watch it with me. I'll probably cry when I watch it. It looks pretty intense.

Addison Timlin plays Colleen and when Colleen visited the set, the young actress talked about the vulnerability she felt while shooting the torture scenes.

"She was in the basement, naked and blindfolded and gagged and handcuffed and they couldn't take these things off in between takes because it would take too much time," Colleen said. "So she had to stay like this for several hours."

Colleen lived the nightmare for 8 years, much of it in a box under Cameron Hooker's bed, something that most people find to be just as shocking as the torture and sexual abuse.

"In your mind, you can go anywhere and you can do anything," Colleen said."I've heard a lot of POWs say they've done the same thing I did. You just have to go someplace else in your mind. You have nice thoughts. I thought of my family, I went on picnics, I went on holidays with my family. I went to good and nice places."
