Single Job Hunting Statistic Will Blow Your Mind

  • 130 million people viewed 112 thousand job postings.
  • 13 million applications were completed for these jobs.
  • 112 thousand people were hired from these completed applications.
This means less than one percent of the people who applied to these jobs actually got hired. It also means that 117 million people who looked at these postings didn’t apply for the 112 thousand jobs available.
This is a enormous waste of time, energy, technology and resources. More surprising, companies are now investing billions of dollars to do this more efficiently.
The data is from a company that processed the 13 million applications over the last three years for their 100+ clients. But this is just the tip of the iceberg.
I asked the head of the company that processed the applications what was the source of the people who did apply. (Caution: You need to sit down before you read this.)
Source of Hire (estimates of the 112 thousand jobs that were filled)
  • 15% saw the job posting and applied.
  • 45% were direct sourced. This means a recruiter found the person on either LinkedIn or on a resume database and contacted the person to determine interest and fit.
  • 40% were referred by someone who was either in the company or knew someone in the company.
This means that of the 13 million people who applied to the job posting only 16,800 found the jobs on a job board.
That’s only one-tenth of one percent – one person hired for every thousand who apply.
This data maps closely to LinkedIn’s annual research on this topic and our own on-going surveys of fully employed candidates asking them how they got their most recent jobs.
Given the realities of hiring at scale, here’s some quick advice on how to improve your odds whether you’re a job seeker or seeking people to hire.
Job Seekers Need to Implement a 20-20-60 Job Hunting Program
Here’s a summary of a video program I prepared a few years ago for job seekersdetailing the multi-pronged job hunting process I recommend.
  • Spend 20% of your time looking for jobs it’s obvious you’re fully qualified to handle. New tools are being developed that automatically screen resumes based on skills, experiences, track record and the quality of companies worked at and schools attended. That’s why the chance of getting a job by applying is so low.
  • Spend 20% of your time making sure your resume and LinkedIn profile can be found. Recruiters search for candidates based on their skills, academic backgrounds and special achievements and honors. If you can’t be found, you’re losing a better chance (20-50X better in fact) at getting a job than applying directly.
  • Spend 60% of your networking on being creative to get interviewed for jobs you’re fully qualified to handle but it’s not obvious based on your resume. When you find a job of interest use the backdoor to get an interview rather than applying directly. Here’s a post with more details but the big idea is to either find someone to refer you or to do a mini-project or video to get an audience with the hiring manager or department head.
Recruiters Need to Implement a 40-40-20 Sourcing Program
Rather than rewrite a book on this recruiting approach, here’s a quick summary:
  • Spend 40% of your time networking and proactively getting referrals of great people. This is the real power of LinkedIn Recruiter: Searching on your connections’ connections. For example, for a construction manager’s position we contacted architects who worked with these people and not only asked who the best ones were but also found six connections that looked outstanding and asked for referrals. We then recruited these people.
  • Spend another 40% of your time searching for high quality candidates who would see your job as a career move. For example, for a controller spot for a fast-growing manufacturing company in the Midwest I found 20 people who were working in bigger companies who would see the move as a career enhancing job. It only took two emails and one phone call to have conversations with 14 of these people. This is called targeted sourcing combined with campaign marketing.
  • Spend the remaining 20% of your writing compelling job postings that outclass the competition. Shifting to a performance-qualified approach broadens the candidate pool. It starts by replacing the laundry list of must-have requirements with a summary of what the person hired will learn, do and become.
Overcoming the lottery-like statistics requires a shift from an impersonal hiring at scale mentality to a more personal and targeted approach. For hiring managers and recruiters the result will be working with fewer but more talented candidates. Job seekers need to reverse the process: Finding jobs of interest then figuring out how to get personal rather than being a statistic and complaining.

Hillary Clinton explains how she'll manage this uneasy economy

Hillary Clinton explains how she'll manage this uneasy economy

Early last week, presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton took the stageat the North Carolina State Fairgrounds to deliver a speech about her economic plan. In a fiery address, she deployed a blueprint that politicians across the pond — specifically, U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron — ignored at their own peril: As often as she talked about her own plans, she trashed the economic policy of her Republican rival. “Donald Trump will drive America back into recession,” she insisted. “We can’t let Donald Trump bankrupt America the way he bankrupted his casinos. We need to write a new chapter in the American dream, and it can’t be Chapter 11.”
A few days later, U.K. voters in a referendum declared they wanted out of the European Union. Markets around the world crashed, wiping out a record $2 trillion in one day; Cameron announced his resignation; other EU member countries started readying their walking papers; and experts confident that the referendum would be a hard-to-remember blip suddenly realized how badly they’d played their side. The Remain camp hadn’t taken seriously enough the need to refute — claim for claim, over and over and in memorable language— the declarations of their opponents. Voters were angry and the Leave camp knew how to market to them.
Yesterday in Chicago, Clinton talked with LinkedIn about how she’s changing her approach and her campaign — if at all — post-Brexit. With one press manager by her side, she strolled into a conference room in Chicago's McCormick Place that we had converted into a pop-up studio. After some small talk, she began piecing through the current economic situation.  She talked about the U.K. shockwave and the underlying currents that are driving unrest: rapidly changing employment conditions; jobs that require more out of employees — and yet are less dependable; and an education system that has saddled young people in career-limiting debt (we'll have more on that in a later post). Clinton had spent the morning with Elizabeth Warren in Cincinnati, so I couldn't resist also asking her if she was ready to reveal her VP.
What follows is an edited transcript of our interview:

see Life after Intel

The last time I was unemployed, this is what a mobile phone looked like.
You won’t find me fishing full time, nor living in one of those golf cart gated communities. I need to and want to continue to work, so the job search will begin soon. The last time I was unemployed was for a couple of weeks after I graduated from college in 1984.
My hope is to continue to work in Application Security, my security work at Intel has ignited a passion in the subject that I want to continue to pursue. In the near term I will work on getting a couple of security certifications that involve some intensive study and exam prep.
While this change is not what I had in mind, I’m choosing to think of it as an opportunity. As I figure out “what’s next”, I’d like to think that the following attributes will characterize ‘life after Intel’ for me:
  • A growth mindset (continually growing, not stagnating nor regressing)
  • No regrets (per John Ortberg, we can turn the ‘right door’ into the ‘wrong door’ by the way we go through it – by spending all our focus on 2nd guessing the decision)
  • Discipline (for the sake of what discipline leads to, not for the sake of discipline itself)
  • Service to others (I’ve been so blessed, and I’m still firmly a believer in abundance over scarcity. As such, I’m compelled to serve.)
  • Lack of comfort (growth and comfort never coexist)
  • Positivity (my life is decidedly more about purpose than about circumstances, I can choose my reaction to circumstances – and I choose to be positive)
  • Intentionality (as Zig Ziglar always said, “if you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it every time”)

3 Types Of SEO And How They Work

3 Types Of SEO And How They Work

In the world of SEO there are three primary types of search engine optimization:

1. Keyword SEO: this is the act of choosing keywords and optimizing your site with codes and content that match the keywords you've selected.

The major benefit is that you get highly targeted traffic that converts on autopilot and usually the buyers are after services or want more information about your products.

Keyword SEO is great for online lead generation!

2. Products SEO: this is the act of optimizing your website, landing pages and product pages for product specific keywords. For example if you're an affiliate of Redwing Shoes you might do Products SEO on a page that sells black work shoes. Thus you would optimize that specific page for "black work shoes" and provided you get top placements, the traffic you would receive is intent on buying black work shoes.

Products SEO works great for anyone who sells products online or sells membership to a site with products (videos, ebooks) etc.

3. Brand SEO: this is the act of optimizing your website or online presence for your personal or business name or your brand name.

Say for example you created a company called Blue Frog Entertainment and when you do a search for it on Google some competitor website comes up with the same or a similar name in a different part of the world.

All you would have to do is optimize in codes and content the words "blue frog entertainment" throughout your web page and submit it to Google.

This would notify them that you are Relevant to that name and this new results would bring your site to page one.

The traffic you get from Brand SEO is mostly people who have already heard about you and they are looking for help, solutions etc, in order to make a purchase or take some kind of action.

So there you have it, the three types of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and how they work and what you can expect from each.

Feel free to share this with your fans and followers, this is very valuable data.

Also, if you're a business owner here in the USA or anywhere in the world, and you have a website and want to know what kind of "SEO" you need to improve current rankings and traffic and exposure, request a free website audit now!

However, if you're a USA business or entrepreneur only, we would love to show you a demo of our Local SEO product and how it works for all three types and how you can rapidly get page one placements for any keywords you want.

REVIEW STAR OCEAN: INTEGRITY AND FAITHLESSNESS

REVIEW STAR OCEAN: INTEGRITY AND FAITHLESSNESS

Take the fantasy-meets-sci-fi premise: It's one I admire greatly, being a fan of writers like Gene Wolfe, Mark Lawrence, and Joe Abercrombie. There was fertile ground for a great story here, and it even had the advantage of being filled with likable characters like Fidel, a young swordsman who gets caught up in an interstellar war after seeking aid for his besieged village; or Emmerson, a captain from space who roleplays a crossbowman out of honor for his government's Prime Directive of sorts. I'll even admit a fondness for Fiore, the supercilious sorceress whose greatest magical feat appears to be her ability to keep her porous getup from ever slipping out of place.
Ocean's Seven
Other signs of trouble reveal themselves early on, such as the relative absence of many traditional cutscenes in favor of voiced dialogue between characters as they stand around looking at each other in the normal gameplay perspective. Seeing expressions thus requires that Fidel moves around to look at their faces, and the approach lacks the emotional punch traditional Star Ocean cutscenes sometimes deliver. The design also fosters awkward silences when a character performs an action I may not initially see on my screen, thus leading me to realize the "cutscene" is still in play only when a red line pops up to bar my path. Integrity and Faithlessness employs this tactic relentlessly and excessively, and it did much to drain my interest in bothering with optional events in towns that flesh out the backstories of my companions.

Dangerous enemies mobile to your PC, you caution them

Freaks to technology and the online world like laptops, because they can simply move them from one place to another, and the most important feature of these computers, but even so there are some drawbacks to this type of computers. So in this post we will learn together on the five most common laptop computer enemies
5 أعداء خطيرة لحاسوبك المحمول ، عليك الحذر منها

 0.1 - transport and mobility

The laptops are designed to make life easier for those who wish to take their equipment from one place to another does not abide in one place. But although it is a useful feature for many, but it may pose a risk to your computer, including falls and being broken, both in the screen or the overall structure of a computer, or loss of data, especially in the hard disk drives "HDD" affected by the movement for being mechanical.

2. Forgetting

Hain is not the case, especially that some of these devices become lighter and thinner. For this reason, you may forget your computer in one of the public places such as coffee shops and public libraries etc. So you need to pay attention and be more careful so as not to lose your computer

0.3 - Fluid

Despite that there are warnings to avoid eating or drinking on your mobile device, but most people are not interested in that advice and guidance. But it can be dangerous to your computer may be a direct Spapa to crash .valgahoh, water, juices and other soft drinks are one of the greatest enemies of your device. The New York State Senate recently passed a resolution proclaiming June 2016 as Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month in New York State. The proclamation coincides with the Alzheimer’s Association’s June awareness campaign and is supported by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
“This is a victory for the 390,000 people with Alzheimer’s disease in New York and their 1.1 million caregivers,” said Jennifer Scheuermann, interim executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter. “Alzheimer’s is an epidemic across the nation, and we applaud Governor Cuomo and the New York State Senate for promoting Alzheimer’s disease and brain awareness. Now, more than ever, we know that greater awareness is the key to mitigating the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease.”
On Monday, June 20, several lawmakers wore purple in support of the cause and encouraged their staffs to do so as well. They included Representatives Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, and Eliot Engel, D-Bronx, State Sen. Sue Serino, R-Hyde Park, and State Assemblymember Didi Barrett, D-Hudson.

The summer solstice, June 20 was the longest day of the year. Honoring families living with Alzheimer’s on that day served as a reminder that for those living with Alzheimer’s, every day seems like the longest day.
Alzheimer’s is a fatal and progressive disease that attacks the brain, killing nerve cells and tissue that affects an individual’s ability to remember, think and plan. Every 66 seconds, someone in the United States develops the disease. There is no treatment or cure, and it is fatal.
“Nearly one in three seniors die from Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia,” Scheuermann noted. “By 2025, approximately 460,000 New Yorkers aged 65 or older will suffer from the disease. That’s almost an 18 percent increase from today. To quote the governor’s proclamation: ‘It’s time to shine the light on the millions of individuals, families and caregivers who are affected by Alzheimer’s.’ The effects of the disease are far-reaching for our state and others.”
Rep. Chris Gibson and Alzheimer’s Ambassador Melanie Whaley wear purple.

Alzheimer’s costs Medicaid more than $4 billion in New York each year. Compared with caregivers of people without dementia, twice as many caregivers of those with dementia indicate substantial financial, emotional and physical difficulties. New York caregivers had $800 million more in aggravated health-care costs than non-caregivers in 2015.
Alzheimer’s cannot be prevented, but adopting healthy habits can reduce the risk of cognitive decline and contribute to brain health. Staying mentally active, engaging in regular physical activity and eating a healthy diet benefits the body and the brain. People may also benefit from staying socially engaged with friends, family and the community. The Alzheimer’s Association provides steps to reduce the risk of cognitive decline with 10 Ways to Love Your Brain.

Alzheimer’s Disease First Steps Revealed by Mouse Brain in a Dish

Alzheimer's Disease's First Steps Revealed by Mouse Brain in a Dish  Alzheimer’s Disease First Steps Revealed by Mouse Brain in a Dish
Using slices of mouse brain tissue kept alive in a lab dish, scientists have identified the earliest molecular changes leading to Alzheimer’s disease.
The findings, showing how early alterations in brain amyloid-β balance causes nerve connections called synapses to die, might allow scientist to target the mechanisms and develop therapies to prevent or postpone disease.
Once a patient receives an Alzheimer’s diagnosis, extensive brain changes involving deposits of amyloid-β protein, referred to as plaque, are already present.
Identifying the first steps leading to Alzheimer’s is a crucial step towards the development of a drug capable of this task. Until now, science has been hampered by poor models of the disease, studying brains of deceased patients or mice bred to mimic human brain conditions.
The new method, developed by researchers atBabraham Institute is a big advance, allowing researchers to track changes as they occur in real-time. Because the tissue in the dish retains its three-dimensional structure and function, it is likely to react similarly to a living brain when exposed to drugs or other experimental conditions.

brain of Alzheimer’s disease

brain of Alzheimer’s disease

The brain of Alzheimer's disease  Alzheimer’s is a disease that physically affects the brain, causing the cells to die off. It is named after a German neurologist, Alois Alzheimer who first described it in 1906. Two abnormal structures are prime suspects in damaging and killing off nerve cells. They are plaques and tangles. Plaques build up between nerve cells, and contain deposits of a sticky protein called beta-amyloid. Tangles are twisted fibres of another protein called tau, and they form inside dying cells.
It is thought that plaques and tangles somehow block communication among nerve cells and disrupt healthy cell activity. Most of us develop plaques and tangles in our brain with age, but in Alzheimer’s disease their presence is far more widespread. They are also initially concentrated in areas vital to learning and memory and then spread elsewhere.
People with Alzheimer’s also have a shortage of certain important chemicals in their brain which are involved with the transmission of messages within the brain. Research is underway into some treatments that reduce plaque formation and others that boost the levels of these chemical messengers.
As nerve cells die, brain functioning is affected. Forgetfulness and an inability to recall names and words is a common early indicator. The disease takes a different course in every individual; in some people it progresses very rapidly, in others, it takes hold slowly.
There are over 100 different types of dementia. Alzheimer’s disease accounts for around 62 per cent of those with the dementia. Other causes include vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies and fronto-temporal dementia.
Vascular dementia
Vascular dementia leads to a narrowing of the arteries and can result in astroke, when the blood supply to the brain is blocked, causing brain cells to die. Symptoms can appear very suddenly after a major stroke, or over time, if a person suffers a series of small strokes.
Dementia with Lewy bodies
This condition is caused by abnormal protein deposits in the brain’s cells that disrupt normal functioning and cause syptoms similar to Parkinson’s Disease, such as trembling and muscle stiffness, as well as the memory loss associated with Alzheimer’s.
Fronto-temporal lobe dementia
The term fronto-temporal dementia covers a range of conditions including dementia associated with motor neurone disease and refers to the area of the brain responsible for behaviour, emotions and language abilities. Unlike Alzheimer’s disease, the memory remains intact, but the personality and behaviour of the person alters dramatically; introverts become extrovert and vice-versa, and aggression is common. It is more likely to affect people under 65, and there is no treatment; drugs used to treat Alzheimer’s tends to make  symptoms worse.

Include yogurt, milk in daily diet to cut breast cancer risk

Making probiotic-rich dairy products, such as yogurt and milk, a part of daily diet may cut the risk of breast cancer in women, claims a new study.
Bacteria that have the potential to abet breast cancer are present in the breasts of cancer patients, while beneficial bacteria are more abundant in healthy breasts, where they may actually be protecting women from cancer, researchers said.Include yogurt, milk in daily diet to cut breast cancer risk
These findings may lead ultimately to the use of probiotics such as yogurt and milk to protect women against breast cancer, they said.
Scientists from Lawson Health Research Institute in Canada obtained breast tissues from 58 women who were undergoing lumpectomies or mastectomies for either benign (13 women) or cancerous (45 women) tumours, as well as from 23 healthy women who had undergone breast reductions or enhancements.
They used DNA sequencing to identify bacteria from the tissues and culturing to confirm that the organisms were alive.
Women with breast cancer had elevated levels of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis, are known to induce double-stranded breaks in DNA in HeLa cells, which are cultured human cells, researchers said.
“Double-strand breaks are the most detrimental type of DNA damage and are caused by genotoxins, reactive oxygen species, and ionising radiation,” said researchers.
The repair mechanism for double-stranded breaks is highly error prone, and such errors can lead to cancer’s development.

Probiotics may prevent breast cancer: Study

Probiotics may prevent breast cancer: Study    A new study has found probiotics may prove to be a critical factor in preventing breast cancer.

Dr Gregor Reid, the professor of microbiology, immunology and surgery at the Western University in Ontario, Canada, said the bacteria having the potential to abet breast cancer are present in the breasts of cancer patients, while beneficial bacteria are more abundant in healthy breasts.

American society for microbiology researchers has suggested these findings may ultimately lead to the use of probiotics to prevent cancer.

In the study, Reid's PhD student Camilla Urbaniak obtained breast tissues from 58 women, who were undergoing lumpectomies or mastectomies for either benign (13 women) or cancerous (45 women) tumors as well as from 23 healthy women, who had undergone breast reductions or enhancements.

Tony Robbins asked them to overcome fear and storm across hot coals

The seminar is called “Unleash the Power Within.” The multi-day event with world-renowned motivational speaker Tony Robbins is “designed to help you unlock and unleash the forces inside that can help you break through any limit and create the quality of life you desire,”according to promotional materials.
“Overcome the unconscious fears that are holding you back,” Robbins’s site proclaims. “Storm across a bed of hot coals.
“Once you start doing what you thought was impossible, you’ll conquer the other fires of your life with ease.”
But Thursday night’s coal walk in Dallas didn’t go so well for dozens of seminar attendees: Five people were taken to the hospital and about 30 to 40 were evaluated after sustaining “burn injuries to their feet and lower extremities” after attempting to walk across hot coals in front of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, said Dallas Fire and Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said,
Multiple rescue units were sent, and a Dallas Area Rapid Transit bus held the 30 to 40 patients who were being evaluated, according to officials.
“The severity of the injuries were unknown, but most people elected not to be taken to the hospital,” Evans said.
A total of 7,000 people participated in the fire walk “which has been a celebrated part of this event for 35 years,” Jennifer Connelly, a spokeswoman for Robbins, said in a statement.

Five attendees at a motivational seminar were taken to hospital in Dallas after sustaining burn injuries as they walked barefoot across hot coals at the urging of self-help guru Tony Robbins. Several dozen more were evaluated for burns by fire and rescue teams, who arrived at the Texas city’s Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Centre shortly after 11pm on Thursday night.
“A lot of the attendees were asked to walk across hot coals, and as a result, a lot of the people sustained burn injuries,” said a spokesman for Dallas emergency services.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin says 14 people have died during devastating flooding in the state.
Tomblin made the announcement Friday during a news conference. He says the damage is widespread and devastating. The governor says search and rescue missions are still a top priority.
A storm system dumped 9 inches of rain on parts of West Virginia and trapped 500 people in a shopping center when a bridge washed out. Dozens of other people had to be plucked off rooftops or rescued as waters quickly rose during the deluge.
Greenbrier County Sheriff Jan Cahill said the bodies of two males were found amid debris near White Sulphur Springs on Friday. The latest victims haven’t yet been identified.
