Ed Sheeran surprises dying young fan with a visit from singer-songwriter
A six-year-old boy diagnosed with a terminal condition has received a surprise visit from his beloved “hero” – English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran.
Sheeran was alerted to Ollie Caroll’s dying wish by a social media campaign by his parents.
In a post to the “Ollie’s Army Battling Against Battens” Facebook page, Ollie’s parents describe how Sheeran was so moved by the boy’s story he invited the family backstage during a concert at the Manchester Arena last week.
As soon as Ed walked into the room yesterday and spoke, Ollie's eye lit up and a smile spread across his face. This image was priceless the post reads.
The post describes how Sheeran gave the boy “the biggest of cuddles” while thanking the star for granting their dying son’s wish.
Ollie suffers from Battens Disease, a rare and fatal degenerative disorder that causes complete physical and mental incapacitation.
Ollie who once knew all the words to Ed's song, who used to sing along can no longer talk, his parents wrote.
Ollie who used to stand at the television watching Ed's videos can no longer stand and see.
However the power of Ed's voice has pulled Ollie through the hardest and darkest of times.
Ollie listens to Ed's songs through his many hospital admissions, his songs have even helped him get through brain surgery.”
