Rescue teams announced the death of about 380 whales on Wednesday

Stuck at a bay in Tasmania, south Australia,

Despite the extensive efforts made to try to help her.

In so doing, the bulk of the flying whales will have died

The 460 that drifted to this bay

 Located on the west coast,

It is a wildlife site on the island with few residents.

"We have a more accurate number and we can confirm that 380 whales have died," said Australian Parks Authority Director Nick Decca.

"About 30 are still alive, and the good news is that we managed to save 50," he added.

A large rescue operation was launched after the discovery of seventy whales on Monday in the Gulf of Tasmania.

Most of them are stranded by a sand cliff that can only be reached by boat.

On Wednesday morning, a reconnaissance plane found another group of about 200 marine mammals, which were already dead.

The stranding of these whales is considered the largest in Tasmania and in Australian history.

About 60 people are taking part in the rescue operations.
