Moderna is on the way to producing millions of doses of Corona vaccine
Moderna said, Friday, that it is on the path of its goal of producing 20 million doses of its experimental vaccine for the emerging corona virus by the end of this year.
The company indicated that it would succeed in providing 500 million to one billion doses of the "prospective vaccine" in the coming year, according to the British newspaper "Daily Mail".
On Wednesday, Moderna succeeded in attracting 25,296 participants out of 30,000, who will participate in the final phase of its trials on the vaccine.
According to the company's CEO, Stefan Bansel, the trial will likely provide enough data to know if the vaccine is effective.
Bancel indicated that if the rate of Covid-19 infection in the United States slows dramatically in the coming weeks, this may delay the results of the experiment, as it needs at least 53 participants exposed to the virus, so that scientists know whether those who have been vaccinated Less likely to develop the disease compared to those given a placebo.
Moderna plans, according to previous statements by its CEO, to obtain "emergency permission" from the health authorities, to use its next vaccine with the groups most at risk if it is proven to be at least 70 percent effective.
Moderna published the full protocol for its trials, on Thursday, in response to calls for greater transparency.
And the protocol for the third phase trial, which the company is negotiating with the US Medicines Agency, details the course of the experiment and the rules followed in distributing the participants to different groups according to certain criteria, especially the conditions for access by an independent committee of experts to the data, and the possibility of stopping the experiment if it is dangerous or continuing it.
