Essential Phone Better Than iPhone 8 and Samsung's Galaxy S8

Essential Phone Better Than iPhone 8 and Samsung's Galaxy S8

There’s a new competitor in the smartphone space, and the company was founded by one of the creators of Android.

Andy Rubin is now the founder and CEO of Essential, a tech startup aimed at delivering products that simplify and create solutions for consumer’s lives. Today, Essential has introduced its first delivery of gadgets, and there’s a smartphone that will likely rival Android and Apple. The Essential PH-1 or the Essential phone, as its being called, features a large 19:10 display screen, a titanium body and ceramic back. It uses a Qualcomm 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, and comes with 128GB of storage — specs, similar to what is currently being used in Androids and it’s expected to be compatible with all service providers. Although Essential has a clear logo, it does not show up on the phone and there is no trace of any branding on its products, thus far.

Rubin wrote a blog post explaining his decision to start Essential:

For all the good Android has done to help bring technology to nearly everyone it has also helped create this weird new world where people are forced to fight with the very technology that was supposed to simplify their lives. Was this what we had intended? Was this the best we could do?

I left that night reflecting deeply on what was great and what was frustrating with the current state of technology today. After another long talk with my friend we decided that I needed to start a new kind of company using 21st century methods to build products for the way people want to live in the 21st century.”

While the Essential phone comes equipped with built-in front and dual rear cameras, what’s truly unique about the essential phone is its wireless accessories. So far, there’s the 360 camera, an Essential charging dock that magnetically snaps on to the phone, and headphones that have yet to be revealed. All of the products are expected to be in sync with the magnetic connector. A “fast” wall charger, headphone adapter and a USB cable are shipped with each phone.

Baby tries to walk reportedly minutes after birth in Brazil

Baby tries to walk reportedly minutes after birth in Brazil

A baby girl has stunned hospital staff in Brazil after she tried to walk reportedly minutes after she was born.

Video has emerged of the tiny tot, held in a midwife’s arms, beginning to pump her legs in a walking motion.

In a Spanish translation provided by the Sun, nurses are absolutely shocked by the baby’s sudden urge to walk.

“Oh my gosh, the girl is walking,” a nurse says.

Good gracious!

The midwife explains she was trying to give the baby a bath but the child just wants to get up and walk.

The midwife tries to put the child down but she pushes off again and tries to walk.

Hevens above,” she says.

“If you told people what has just happened no one would believe it unless they saw it with their own eyes.

It normally takes about eight to 12 months for a child to begin walking.

It’s unknown whose baby it is and where the incident happened.

But the Sun believes the insignia on the midwife’s robes suggest she works at a Santa Cruz Hospital, in a city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, south Brazil.

Google Maps vs. Apple Maps: A year in analysis

Google Maps vs. Apple Maps: A year in analysis

Apple is constantly working on maps but, when you look at this incredibly detailed analysis by Justin O'Beirne, Google is racing.

In our Comparison last year, we found that Apple generally showed a greater variety of places than Google:

But look what happens when we resurvey Google a year later: It's quite a difference – and Google's mix is now much closer to Apple's.

Speaking of Apple... while Google has been making all those changes, what has Apple been up to? After all, Apple announced an "all-new design" for Apple Maps just weeks before Google's Summer redesign.

Let's take a look at how Apple looked a year ago, before it released its new design:

And now let's see how it looks today:

See the difference?

I don't either.

Last year, in addition to the major redesign, we also got Maps apps, so everything from ride-sharing to reservation making could live in and enhance maps. We also got steady progress for Apple Maps on the web.

I expect we'll see some of the next-generation of Maps updates at WWDC 2017 but here's hoping Apple can shed its dependence on TomTom data, accelerate the updates, and start closing that gap.

It's not about beating Google at maps either. It's about providing quality maps all Apple's own. Many people simply use whatever's built into the phone or tablet they buy, and for iPhone and iPad, that's Apple Maps. And they deserve as rapid and continuous improvements as possible.

Smartphone launches across the UK, O2 and Vodafone tariffs available

The Nougat-powered smartphone arrives as BlackBerry's latest Android device to pack a full QWERTY keyboard, no doubt in a bid to attract BlackBerry purists and business customers.

Release date

The BlackBerry KeyOne is now available in the UK, having launched exclusively at Selfridges on 27 April.

It's also available to pick up from the likes of Carphone Warehouse and Clove.

Price

Despite speculation that the KeyOne would be priced closer to £275 DTEK50 than the more expensive £475 BlackBerry DTEK60, TCL has confirmed that the handset will cost £499 in the UK.

Over at Carphone Warehouse, pick up the BlackBery KeyOne SIM-free for £499.99. It can also be picked up on tariffs with O2 and Vodafone, with prices starting at £19.99 on a £32 month tariff that comes with 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB data.

Specs

The BlackBerry KeyOne's QWERTY keyboard doubles up as a makeshift trackpad, mimicking the BlackBerry trackpad of old, and all 52 buttons can be programmed as customisable shortcuts. There's also a fingerprint scanner built into the spacebar, adding an extra layer of security to the device.

A 4.5in 1620x1080 display sits above the retro keys and under the hood you'll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and a 3,505mAh battery. The BlackBerry KeyOne is the first device to feature the firm's new 'Boost' charging tech, which will get you to 50 per cent charge in precisely 36 minutes

Facebook founder | Zuckerberg may be planning to launch a presidential c...

Facebook founder | Zuckerberg may be planning to launch a presidential campaign.

Everyone should be paid a universal basic income, Mark Zuckerberg has said.

The Facebook founder said that making sure everyone received basic pay would allow them to take more risks and try out new things, while knowing that they would still be able to afford the basic things they need to live.

The idea of a universal basic income, or UBI, has become popular among technologists and people in Silicon Valley. It allows for more redistributive policies and will be important when automation takes their jobs, they say.

Mr Zuckerberg suggested that the universal basic income would be part of a “new social contract for our generation”. He made the recommendation during a Harvard speech that many said looked as if he was planning to become president.

“We should have a society that measures progress not just by economic metrics like GDP, but by how many of us have a role we find meaningful,” he said. “We should explore ideas like universal basic income to give everyone a cushion to try new things

We’re going to change jobs many times, so we need affordable child care to get to work and health care that aren’t tied to one company. We’re all going to make mistakes, so we need a society that focuses less on locking us up or stigmatising us. And as technology keeps changing, we need to focus more on continuous education throughout our lives.

And yes, giving everyone the freedom to pursue purpose isn’t free. People like me should pay for it. Many of you will do well and you should, too

Mom earns honorary MBA after attending every class with quadriplegic son

Mom earns honorary MBA after attending every class with quadriplegic son

Let everyone know that nothing is impossible

We present you this story to a young man he got

Master of Business Administration

Borrow was credited

To the mother who received

Honorary award as well

What she didn't know was that she was getting a degree, too.

Marty O'Connor graduated Saturday with a master's degree in business administration from Chapman University in Orange, California. An accident a few years ago left him a quadriplegic, reliant on voice-recognition software and other aids -- and unable to take notes or write answers to tests.

So his mother went to every class with him, scribbling down notes and helping out however she could.

As a mom, you just want to help your kids get through things," Judy O'Connor, a retired school teacher, told CNN affiliate KTLA. "I always believed in him. I knew he could do it, and I just wanted to have his back."

Turns out her son had her back, too. At his graduation, O'Connor wheeled her son across the stage. Then she was recognized as a "special individual" and awarded an honorary MBA of her own as the crowd cheered.

And it was all her son's idea.

"I was just so excited for her," Marty O'Connor said, "because she deserved it so much."

Mother who attended university every day with her quadriplegic son to take notes for him is surprised with an honorary MBA at his graduation

Judy O'Connor acted as her son Marty's note-taker at Chapman University

Marty was paralyzed from the shoulders down after falling down stairs in 2012

Marty, 29, graduated from the Californian university on Saturday with his MBA

As Judy pushed him across the stage to accept his diploma, the university revealed she would be receiving her own honorary degree

A California mother who attended every university class with her quadriplegic son so he could earn his MBA was surprised with her own honorary degree at his graduation.

Judy O'Connor, a retired elementary school teacher, was 29-year-old Marty O'Connor's note-taker as he worked towards his master's of business administration degree at Chapman University.

She joined her son at his graduation on Saturday and pushed him across the stage in his wheelchair so he could accept his diploma.

As they stopped midway to pose for a photo, the announcer revealed Mrs O'Connor would receive an honorary MBA as a thank you from her son and the university.

'Mrs Judith O'Connor has attended all the classes with her son Marty,' the announcer said, choking back tears.

'She has taken notes and worked with Marty throughout his academic career.'

Her son was the one who suggested she be given the honorary award, according to the announcer.

'I was just so excited for her because she deserved it so much,' Marty told KTLA.

His emotional mother said: 'As a mom, you just want to help your kids get through things. I always believed in him. I knew he could do it and I just wanted to have his back.'

The former competitive snowboarder and volleyball player attended physical therapy five days a week to help him heal, before deciding to pursue graduate school.

'The last two years have been a whirlwind. It's been extremely challenging but even more so, rewarding,' he told the Chapman University blog prior to graduating.

During his studies he used an iPad, laptop, voice recognition software and a mouth stick to help him.

Huawei MateBook Xis a 13” clamshell laptop that weighs only 2.31 Lbs

Huawei MateBook Xis a 13” clamshell laptop that weighs only 2.31 Lbs

The MateBook X is a 13” clamshell laptop that weighs only 2.31 Lbs

When you consider that a MacBook Air weighs 2.96 Lbs and that most competing 13” laptops hover around 2.5-2.8 Lbs, this is a significant difference. The LG Gram 13” is probably the only laptop in that category to weigh 2.1 Lbs, but this it uses different materials and makes tradeoffs on how rigid the frame is. This laptop’s dimensions are 12.5 x 286 ×211mm.

Additionally, the Huawei MateBook X can be powered by an Intel Core i5 (7200U), which is common for thin and lights, but also by a Core i7 (7500U), a very popular CPU option, even for 15.6” laptops. The memory can go from 4GB to 8GB of RAM, and the SSD storage varies from 256GB to 512GB.

The industrial design is amazingly thin. With a thickness of 12.5mm, it is thinner than the Macbook’s thickest point (13.1mm). However, it has two USB-C connectors, one on either side. One can be used for data and charge (the laptop), while the other is for data connectivity and is the recommended port for the MateBook 2 Dock (optional). The detailed specifications for the USB-C ports were not available at launch time, so we will see if they are USB 3.0, 3.1 or Thunderbolt 3. Laptop designs with a single port have been criticized by many users for being annoying – having two is a great improvement.

The Huawei Mate X has a Power Button with an integrated fingerprint reader. This is inspired by the Huawei phones since PCs typically have those two functions separated. That is also because Boot or Wake-up are not “instantaneous” on Windows.

At 1 Megapixel, the front camera is decent for video chat, but we do not expect it to outperform phones, although that would be a nice surprise. The computer has two speakers and two microphones. The two speakers provide stereo sound, while the multi-microphones probably enable some form of noise cancellation during voice chat.

Interestingly enough, Huawei seems to be the first PC OEM to include Dolby Atmos Sound System, which provides some 3D audio rendering for laptops. The demo was pretty convincing, and we are curious to see when/where content will be available.

The 41.4 Wh li-po battery capacity is a bit smaller than other 13” competitors (50Wh-60Wh), but it is not surprising given how small this computer is. This is a tradeoff worth considering if the combination of weight, size, and design is right for your usage. Also, if you go to meeting for a few hours at a time, it is probably good enough.

8 things we know about Android Go

8 things we know about Android Go

But there's so much we still don't know about Android Go as well.

It seems like a second attempt at Android One, version 2.0 of that initiative if you will. While we do not know a lot about Android Go right at this moment, there are some pointers as to what it will be.

1      Data saver by default

Speaking of data saving, Android Go will have the data saver mode turned on by default. Google didn’t explicitly say so, but there should be a way to toggle data saver off as well. However, this further indicates that the company wants to make things simpler on Android, for markets where data is still a very precious commodity. Android Go’s settings app will apparently allow users to “top-up” their data packages directly from the app, instead of going through their carriers.

   2    Lighter apps

Google is going to give developers a best practices document, for apps that want to be displayed for Android Go. Thinking back to YouTube Go once again, this could mean that app’s will be slightly redesigned, and possibly even stripped off some features. Of course, this will differ from app to app, but much like most other platforms, a best practices document can aid in achieving uniform performance across an OS.

  3   Less than 1GB RAM

A key announcement about Android Go was that it would be aimed at devices sporting 1GB RAM, or even 512MB. In the current Indian market, that covers a huge number of devices priced at less than Rs. 5000.   Google says it'll eventually start giving the Android Go configuration to all devices that have less than 1GB of RAM.

  4   Google Play still rules

Much like Android in general, the heart of Android Go will also be with the Google Play Store

5    Android Go vs Android One

While it is far too early to spot differences between the two programs, Android Go seems to be a more proactive and informed approach

6     When will we see Android Go?

You’ll have to wait almost a whole year for that. First Android Go based devices are expected next year, so there’s a lot of waiting to be done. However, this could possibly mean that the changes to the platform are big enough to warrant such a huge timeline.

7     s India likely to be the first?

We do not have confirmation on that, but India was the first to get Android One, and it was the first to get YouTube

8     Will it again run on MediaTek's entry-level chipsets?

Given the company's close association with Google, it just might be possible that Qualcomm will drive the Android Go innovation, although we wouldn't rule out MediaTek either.

The family has cancer

Family reveal on Facebook that 'there are no treatment options available'

BRAVE footy mascot Bradley Lowery has another tumour in his neck, his devastated family have revealed.

The sad news came just a day after the devoted Sunderland fan celebrated his sixth birthday with his “best mate” Jermain Defoe at a bash.

His family posted a message on Facebook about how “there are no treatment options available for Bradley now

It read: “Unfortunately we have found another lump on his neck that is getting bigger very quickly and Bradley’s consultant believes it is yet another tumour.

I appreciate everyone who does any fundraising no matter how little or big, no matter how much is raised for Bradley which will now go into his foundation to support other families.

Thank you to everyone for all your kind messages of support and wishing my superstar a happy birthday.

“Thank you to my team I have helping me out going to events on behalf of Bradley and answering messages

Bradley is fighting against debilitating neuroblastoma — but that did not stop him enjoying his birthday party on Friday night

The event, which featured fire-eaters, a funfair, marquee, jugglers and stilt-walkers, was held on the cricket pitch in Bradley’s village of Blackhall, County Durham.

Defoe and Sunderland keeper Vito Mannone were there to celebrate at the party, delayed by two days as Bradley was in hospital having treatment.

Twins sisters celebrate their 100th birthday in Brazil

Twins sisters celebrate their 100th birthday in Brazil

Twin sisters in Brazil will celebrate their 100th birthday later this month and to mark the momentous occasion, a photographer captured them in a whimsical photo shoot.

Camila Lima, of Cariacica, Brazil, told ABC News that she heard about Maria Pignaton Pontin and Paulina Pignaton Pandolfi after seeing a report on her local news.

The photographer said she regularly takes photos of older couples "as a way to inspire young couples." She decided to reach out to the sisters, who live in Ibiraçu, Brazil, hoping they'd participate in a photo shoot to mark their milestone birthdays.

Lima, 28, said the two-hour photo shoot on Monday included hair styling, makeup application and pink and blue matching dresses. She added that the two sisters "were all excited."

"They did everything I asked and did not complain about tiredness," the photographer said, noting that both were "very happy and satisfied" with the finished photo shoot.

It's a great present for the twins and their big family.

Pandolfi has six children, 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, while Pontin has five children, 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, according to Brazil's Gazeta News.

The twins plan to celebrate with their large family on May 20, the newspaper added.

comparison # Tablet Vs. Phone: Which should you choose?

comparison # Tablet Vs. Phone: Which should you choose?

There are numerous things to consider when it comes to choosing between a phone or table, but the key questions you need to ask yourself are; who is it for, what will it be used for, how much are you looking to spend and what screen size do you fancy?

Best mobile phones in the world today

The biggest difference in phones and tablets is obviously screen size. This distinction is forever becoming more blurred as supersized smartphones begin to encroach on the 7-inch tablet market.

Looking for the best of both worlds? Then you might want to check out the 6.inch Nexus 6 or the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus.

If plans for your new device centre around watching a lot of movies, reading books and magazines or browsing the web then we'd recommend buying a tablet.

While you can do all these activities on a smartphone, the smaller screen isn't as comfortable from a visual perspective, although phones are much better for music playback thanks to their portable nature.

We'd recommend a phone for those users who spend a lot more time on the go, for those who value portability as much as functionality. Tablets are becoming ever more portable, but nothing will ever replace the ease of being able to just pop something into your pocket.

One of the biggest differences between tablets is the OS, with Android and Windows gracing numerous slates and iOS 8 featuring on iPads.

iOS 8 is the easiest to grasp for first time users with its system built around quickly accessing apps, and everything being on screen.

Best tablets in the world today

Android is far more open, with manufacturers putting on their own user interfaces, although these can be changed with third party apps on the Play Store.

Windows 8 is more of a compromise between tablet and laptop, being able to cover those that need something for work, and apps for those that want to sit on the sofa and mess around.

The iPads

If you're looking for the complete package look no further than the iPad Air 2. It certainly has a lot to shout about, from a superb design to a fluid, intuitive operating system, powerful innards and a stunning 9.7-inch display.

Building upon the work done by last year's iPad Air, the Air 2 is perhaps the best tablet available right now. However issues still remain with its price. With the basic 16GB Wi-Fi model

Are there any tablets which can take on the iPad Air 2 at the top of market, or are you just stuck with Apple's expensive, yet stunning slate? The good news is that there are, and one of the best examples is the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet.

Its full HD, 10.1-inch Triluminos display is fantastic and at just 6.4mm thick it's the slimmest 10-inch tablet on the market, as well as being rather lightweight too (only 439g). It also has a microSD slot to expand your storage options by a further 64GB - a rare option

Screen size is just as hot a topic on phones as it is on tablets, as most manufacturers are pushing flagship screens beyond 5-inches. Phablets have emerged intending to further blur the lines between tablets and phones.

As a compromise device, a phablet might be just what you're after, although they tend to command higher price tags. This year a trend has emerged for QHD screens with the LG G3, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Google Nexus 6 all offering pixel packed screens.

The latest flagship devices come with oodles of power, but they still command a certain level of financial investment. The reward for this speaks for itself, just take a look at our HTC One M8, Sony Xperia Z3 and Samsung Galaxy S5 reviews.

Storage is also very important on smartphones, especially if you plan on filling one up with apps and/or media. This is highlighted by the lack of expandable storage on the iPhone 6, although Apple do offer 64GB and 128GB variants.

mother refuses to give up her disabled son until he arrivesnurtures him to Harvard

A young Chinese man who was born disabled has defied medical experts after being admitted into elite university Harvard University, United States.

Ding Ding, now aged 29, almost suffocated during his birth in 1988, leaving him with cerebral palsy, according to Chinese news website

His mother Zou Hongyan, was encouraged by doctors and even her own husband to give up her baby - as they believed the baby boy would be a burden, leading a sad and worthless life and was 'not worth saving', said the doctors.

Zou rejected their claims, promptly divorced Ding ding's father who sided with medical staff and decided to make it her life mission to nurture her baby boy to a better life.

Ding Ding now attributes his academic success as well as overcoming many of his physical handicaps to his mother’s persistence and endless devotion

To support her family and provide treatment for her son, Zou worked three jobs simultaneously, including a full-time job at a college in Wuhan and a part-time role selling insurance.

Zou also took Ding to rehabilitation sessions, learned how to massage his stiff muscles caused by his condition, and regularly played intelligence boosting games with her little boy.

And her hard work and dedication has certainly paid off.

So proud: Ding celebrating his graduation from Peking University in 2015 with his loving mum, Zou

Today, Ding has a Bachelor's Degree from Peking University’s Environmental Science and Engineering School, a master's degree from Peking University's University Law School and is continuing his law studies currently at the US Ivy League Harvard University.

Ding told Xinhuanet.com, he often missed his mother who lives in Jingzhou, Hubei province in China and describes her as his 'spiritual mentor' while Zou relishes a 'close friendship' with her son.

Learn about the benefits of grief sometimes

Learn about the benefits of grief sometimes

In our culture, normal human emotions like temporary sadness are often treated as disorders.

Manipulative advertising, marketing and self-help industries claim happiness should be ours for the asking.

Yet bad moods remain an essential part of the normal range of moods we regularly experience.

Despite the near-universal cult of happiness and unprecedented material wealth, happiness and life satisfaction in Western societies has not improved for decades.

It's time to re-assess the role of bad moods in our lives. We should recognise they are a normal, and even a useful and adaptive part of being human, helping us cope with many everyday situations and challenges.

In fact, many of the greatest achievements of the human spirit deal with evoking, rehearsing and even cultivating negative feelings.

Greek tragedies exposed and trained audiences to accept and deal with inevitable misfortune as a normal part of human life.

Shakespeare's tragedies are classics because they echo this theme. And the works of many great artists such as Beethoven and Chopin in music, or Chekhov and Ibsen in literature explore the landscape of sadness, a theme long recognised as instructive and valuable.

Ancient philosophers have also believed accepting bad moods is essential to living a full life.

Even hedonist philosophers like Epicurus recognised living well involves exercising wise judgement, restraint, self-control and accepting inevitable adversity.

Other philosophers like the stoics also highlighted the importance of learning to anticipate and accept misfortunes, such as loss, sorrow or injustice.

What is the point of sadness?

Psychologists who study how our feelings and behaviours have evolved over time maintain all our affective states (such as moods and emotions) have a useful role: they alert us to states of the world we need to respond to.

In fact, the range of human emotions includes many more negative than positive feelings.

Negative emotions such as fear, anger, shame or disgust are helpful because they help us recognise, avoid and overcome threatening or dangerous situations.

But what is the point of sadness, perhaps the most common negative emotion, and one most practising psychologists deal with?

Intense and enduring sadness, such as depression, is obviously a serious and debilitating disorder.

However, mild, temporary bad moods may serve an important and useful adaptive purpose, by helping us to cope with everyday challenges and difficult situations.

2017 will mark the 10th anniversary of the iPhone and Apple has something major planned to celebrate the occasion. We've got several months to go until the launch of the iPhone 8, but because of Apple's ambitious plans for the device, there are already an abundance of rumors hinting at the impressive features coming in the 2017 iPhone.

Apple is rumored to be testing more than 10 prototype iPhone models, so it's not entirely clear what we're going to see, and because there are so many test devices in play, rumors are also conflicting and murky at this time

We've rounded up everything we know about the iPhone 8 so far and will update this article as soon as we hear more.

Release date

The iPhone 8 is likely to be announced in September 2017, marking 10 years since the firm launched its first smartphone.

However, one report claims that it might not be available to buy until the fourth quarter, noting that the iPhone 8 may be available in limited quantity only. A note by analyst Timothy Arcuri from Cowen and Company has added weight to this, and claims that production could be delayed due to issues with its Touch ID sensor.

Another report suggests the iPhone 8 may not arrive until 2018. A research Deutsche Bank, picked up by Business Insider, claims the smartphone won't make it onto shelves this year due to supply chain issues and "technical challenges".

Price

If it's anything like Apple's new MacBooks, next year's iPhone will be more expensive than this year's release, and some are claiming that the highest-spec model will be the first iPhone to cost more than $1,000.

Rumoured specs

- 5.8in 2.5D OLED edge-to-edge display

- New design with an 'all-glass' construction

- Wireless charging support

- Apple A11 chip

- Rear-facing Touch ID sensor

- iOS 11 with 'advanced Siri functionality'

- Face-scanning technology

- Vertical dual cameras on rear

Latest news

11/4/17: A report at Digitimes (ugh) claims that TSMC has begun production of the 10nm A11 chip that's set to make its debut inside the iPhone 8, having previously ran into issues  involving stacking components in the backend integrated fan-out packaging process.

Katie Bergin was just nine-months-old the last time her 24-year-old father Tony Brown saw her in London.

Mr Brown had a relationship with a 29-year-old friend – Katie’s mum – a fiercely independent woman who was taken to a home for unmarried mothers and asked to give up her daughter for adoption.

She vehemently refused and eventually gave birth to her daughter in Liverpool.

She told me my dad’s name was Anthony Brown and he was originally from Wales,”

The information proved difficult in finding her father, who had served in the RAF, moved to Australia by 1975 and remarried.

A Facebook plea to find her father was spotted by the keen-eyed head of Family Finders, a BBC documentary, who told Ms Bergin her search would need to go far beyond the borders of the UK.

It took her 17,000 kilometres away to Albury, New South Wales through the Australian contact number of Mr Brown’s mother.

Ms Bergin told the Border Mail when she finally spoke to her father “it was a flood of tears – we both couldn’t speak”.

He said to me, ‘it’s like the moon and the stars have finally arrived back on Earth’, and that’s what it’s like,” she said.

Ms Bergin is approaching two weeks at her 77-year-old father’s home, and soon plans to introduce him to his 21-year-old grand-daughter, Grace to catch up on years of lost time.

iPhone 7 vs iPhone 6 specs | comparison

iPhone 7 vs iPhone 6 specs | comparison

Both smartphones use Apple's proprietary Lightning port. The iPhone 6 used it just for charging and data, but the iPhone 7 also relies on it for audio. The rumours were true: the iPhone 7 ships with a pair of AirPods designed for use with the Lightning port rather than a traditional 3.5mm jack.

Apple also includes an adaptor in the box so you'll still be able to use your beloved analogue headphones, but bear in mind that whichever solution you choose, audio and charging can't happen at the same time.

The iPhone 7 is the first Apple handset with IP67 certification. This isn't the highest rating the iPhone could have been awarded, but still means that the device is protected from dust and can survive in water up to a depth of 1m for 30 minutes. The iPhone 6 is better left in a protective case as it's wholly at the mercy of the elements.

The iPhone 7 breaks with tradition by doing away with the classic Space Grey colour. But two new options, Black and Jet Black, support the Gold, Rose Gold and Silver models. The iPhone 6 was available in a choice of Space Grey, Silver and Gold.

The iPhone 7 is powered by Apple's new A10 Fusion processor, which is claimed to be the fastest smartphone chip available thanks to two "high performance" cores.

Apple said that the A10 provides 40 per cent faster processing than the A9 chip before it, while a new controller intelligently manages workloads and results in increased efficiency. Similarly, the iPhone 7's new GPU is capable of delivering a performance increase equivalent to 50 per cent.

The A8 is still a capable chip, but Apple has optimised things when it comes to iOS 9 and above to run on devices with 2GB of RAM. iOS 9 (and later 10) will still work, but we suspect that the experience may differ somewhat on technology two generations old.

sea of silver sparkling | in final public event for the charity

A humble netball court in the centre of Canberra was transformed into a sparkling sea of silver, after thousands of people donated millions of five-cent coins to raise money for Connie Johnson’s Love Your Sister charity.

The Big Heart Project is the Canberra mum’s final public event for the charity which was set up her brother – gold Logie winner Samuel Johnson.

Together, the pair has been working tirelessly to raise funds for breast cancer after Connie was diagnosed with the disease.

On Wednesday, thousands lined the Lyneham netball courts to toss five cent pieces high into the air to fill out the heart.

The original aim was to break the record for the longest line of coins, but they quickly changed that to creating the heart after they were inundated with donations.

The goal was $1 million – over $2 million has been raised.

“I’ve never felt so much love in my life,” Connie told the Canberra Times.

Everyone who is here is here for love, for passion, a cure. There’s sadness, there’s celebration

Connie has ceased treatment for her cancer and will now step back from the charity to spend time with her two young boys, her partner and of course her brother.

“I am hoping that without the chemo in my system that I might have a bit of a boost for a little while, feel a little better before the cancer takes over and in that time I just want to be a mum,” she said.

The money raised from Wednesday’s event will go to the Garvan Institute into breast cancer research and other research projects for other cancers.

Husband sleeps next to wife's body for nearly a week after she died

Husband sleeps next to wife's body  for nearly a week after she died

A grieving husband has admitted to sleeping next to his dead wife for nearly a week because he didn’t want her to be taken away in a body bag.

British man Russell Davison said he was devastated after his "truly remarkable" wife Wendy died in their family home on April 21 after a ten-year battle with cervical cancer

The 50-year-old said he and his four children "lovingly" washed her body, before dressing her and placing her in their bed.

"She looked absolutely beautiful, just like she always did in life, no effort, no makeup just radiant beauty," Mr Davison wrote in a Facebook post.

"For a long time I have been determined to have Wendy at home when she died. I did not want her in the mortuary or handed over to a funeral director," he said.

"I wanted us to take care of her ourselves at our family home, have her in our bedroom so I could sleep in the same room

Wendy, who died aged 50, was diagnosed with cervical cancer just after the couple celebrated their 40th birthday. She was told three years ago she only had six months to live.

The couple bought a caravan and travelled Europe until last September when Wendy’s pain became too overwhelming.

She was placed in a nursing home for treatment, and brought home for her final days.

"Death seems to be such a taboo subject in our society, no one seems to want to talk about it," Mr Davison said.

"Wendy's body here and being able to sit with her all day, have her friends and family come to sit with her, chat with her, chat about her and light candles and incense on her alter is proving to be such a beautiful and comforting experience for me.

‘We were not prepared to hand her life over to doctors – we wanted to do our own research and do the very best job we could to keep Wendy alive.

‘We have no doubt that by refusing chemotherapy and radiotherapy and truly embracing natural health we have extended Wendy’s life by a very long time.

Around three years ago Wendy was given six months to live. It was then that we decided we needed to start living in “The Now” and make the very most of every moment we had left together, so we bought a caravan and went travelling all round Europe.

We adapted our work to be done from anywhere on a mobile phone and a laptop and we set off.

‘Our “gypsy travels” sadly had to come to an end last September when we had to return home to Derby due to Wendy’s pain being too much to bear

first baby to be breastfed in the federal Parliament | Australian Parliament.

The daughter of Greens co-deputy leader Larissa Waters graced the floor of the Senate on Tuesday becoming the first baby to be breastfed in the chamber.

Senator Waters returned to Parliament for the first time since giving birth to her second daughter earlier this year, bringing the baby in for a feed during a vote on a Greens motion.

"So proud that my daughter Alia is the first baby to be breastfed in the federal Parliament

Labor frontbencher Katy Gallagher said it was a moment that deserved to be acknowledged.

"Women have been doing it in parliaments around the world ... It is great to see it is able to occur now in the Senate," she told Sky News.

Women are going to continue to have babies and if they want to do their job and be at work and look after their baby ... the reality is we are going to have to accommodate that."

The milestone comes after Senator Waters instigated changes to Senate rules last year, extending rules that already allowed breastfeeding in the chamber to allow new mothers and fathers to briefly care for their infants on the floor of Parliament.

The House of Representatives has made similar changes.

It followed another historic achievement in the Senate on Tuesday morning, with the swearing-in of new independent senator Lucy Gichuhi, the first black African member of the Australian Parliament.

Greens colleague Sarah Hanson-Young made headlines back in 2009 when her two-year-old daughter Kora was taken from her arms and ejected from the Senate chamber

Girl Dwarfism Meeting Belle, her favorite Disney princess Ends Up In Tears

Girl Dwarfism Meeting Belle, her favorite Disney princess Ends Up In Tears

When one little girl named Daisy Perez was visiting Disney World with her family, she was brought to tears when she met her favorite Disney princess. She couldn’t believe the words Belle said to her.
7-year-old Daisy from Houston, Texas was born with Achondroplasia which is a form of dwarfism and when she was nominated for the make-a-wish foundation, she found herself on her way to Disney. Keep on reading to find out the amazing question a certain Disney princess had for Daisy and her family.
Patricia explained that Daisy has lived a life full of countless surgeries. She’s had operations on her head, legs, neck, and back, and after watching her go through this a nurse at the Children’s Health in Dallas decided to nominate her for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Daisy was approved, and although her second choice was to meet Louis Tomlinson from One Direction, she decided to choose something she could share with her siblings
With that, the Perez family packed up and was en route to Florida. What they didn’t know however was that once they got there they would also be getting a tour of France
It’s a part of the job for Disney employees to stay in character and make guests feel welcome, but when Daisy met her favorite princess, the questions she had for her brought Daisy to tears.
With her family, Daisy had been staying at Disney World from Friday and on Sunday she decided to get all dolled up in the classic yellow Belle gown.

When the moment in which she was finally able to meet one of her favorite princesses came, she was clearly already filled with emotion.
Obviously meeting one of your idols would be a lot for a 7-year-old. Daisy probably would have been satisfied with just the hug! That’s when Belle asked the family a question that had everyone surprised.

Just as the family was about to move on with the rest of their day, Belle asked them if they had any more plans.

When we said no, she said ‘Great! What if I take you on a tour of France?’ Daisy’s mother had told Belle that she was the reason she wanted to go to Disney World.

Man Built plastic Island | He Used To Build It Will Blow Your Mind

An Island made from plastic bottles by Richart Sowa

Really wealthy people are often buying their own private islands to vacation at. Richard did something completely different.

He is an eco architect, and built his own island that is completely made out of plastic. In Mexico he built this island. He gives a tour of his property, and it is all biodegradable and eco friendly.

His island in the waters of Isla Mujeres near Cancun has opened for tours since 2008. It is 82 feet and there are plants and mangroves growing on it.

There are about 100,000 plastic bottles on this island, and the new island has three beaches, a house and two ponds.

There is also a solar powered waterfall and river, a wave powered washing machine and solar panels. He had volunteers help him with it.

He is always making improvements to the property. He has a biodegradable toilet, and he says eventually he will make air conditioner from the waves in the ocean.

He shows that he already started to make it with the plastic bottles, and shows his shower as well. He says if you take aluminum cans and poke holes in them you are already making an electric charge. He knows how to power things without the use of electricity. He says when you have your own island, you create your own microclimate.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Windows 10 S and starts at $999

Microsoft Surface Laptop Windows 10 S and starts at $999

Microsoft is trying to shake things up in the education market with the new Windows 10 S and Surface Laptop. And it's approaching things from two different directions. While the former is a lighter, less complex and easier to manage version of Windows 10 that's meant to compete with Chrome OS, the first Surface laptop, which it's using to showcase this operating system, is not actually a Chromebook competitor.

The Surface Laptop is a device aimed at college students and other prospective buyers looking for a Surface-branded laptop. So it features a high-end build, speedy internals, and, like you would expect, it has the price to match its premium aspirations too, kicking off at $999. In a sense, it's closer to the Apple MacBook Air than your typical Chromebook -- yet it runs a "lesser" version of Windows 10. Interesting, isn't it?

Here's what you need to know about it. First, there will be four hardware configurations available, two with an Intel Core i5 processor and the other two with a Core i7 chip. The Core i5 line includes a 128GB model with 4GB of RAM and a 256GB model with 8GB of RAM. Both get Intel's HD Graphics 620. The former can be had only in Platinum, while the latter can also be purchased in Burgundy, Cobalt Blue and Graphite Gold.

The Core i7 line features a 256GB model with 8GB of RAM and a 512GB model with 16GB of RAM. Both have Iris Plus Graphics 640, and both can be had in Platinum only.

No matter which one you get, there is a 13.5-inch PixelSense Display, with a resolution of 2,256 by 1,504 and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top, that is touch-enabled. Microsoft says that it's "the thinnest LCD touch screen display on any laptop," which is an impressive achievement. The whole device is only 14.47mm (0.57in) at its thickest point, and weighs just 1.25kg (2.76lbs). You'll be able to use a Surface Pen and Surface Dial with the Surface Laptop, if you want.
