mother refuses to give up her disabled son until he arrivesnurtures him to Harvard



A young Chinese man who was born disabled has defied medical experts after being admitted into elite university Harvard University, United States.

Ding Ding, now aged 29, almost suffocated during his birth in 1988, leaving him with cerebral palsy, according to Chinese news website

His mother Zou Hongyan, was encouraged by doctors and even her own husband to give up her baby - as they believed the baby boy would be a burden, leading a sad and worthless life and was 'not worth saving', said the doctors.

Zou rejected their claims, promptly divorced Ding ding's father who sided with medical staff and decided to make it her life mission to nurture her baby boy to a better life.

Ding Ding now attributes his academic success as well as overcoming many of his physical handicaps to his mother’s persistence and endless devotion

To support her family and provide treatment for her son, Zou worked three jobs simultaneously, including a full-time job at a college in Wuhan and a part-time role selling insurance.

Zou also took Ding to rehabilitation sessions, learned how to massage his stiff muscles caused by his condition, and regularly played intelligence boosting games with her little boy.

And her hard work and dedication has certainly paid off.

Today, Ding has a Bachelor's Degree from Peking University’s Environmental Science and Engineering School, a master's degree from Peking University's University Law School and is continuing his law studies currently at the US Ivy League Harvard University.

Ding told Xinhuanet.com, he often missed his mother who lives in Jingzhou, Hubei province in China and describes her as his 'spiritual mentor' while Zou relishes a 'close friendship' with her son.
