Microsoft has officially announced Windows 10 S today. It’s a new lightweight version of Windows 10 that’s going to run on cheap hardware. It only runs sandboxed apps from the Windows Store and does have the ability to be upgraded to a full version of Windows. Many PC manufacturers will make their own Windows 10 S computers. HP and Acer are the first to unveil their new Windows 10 S machines
HP and Acer have basically launched cheaper versions of their existing laptops that now run Windows 10 S. These notebooks are almost identical to their existing models but run the new operating system. Both are priced at $299.
HP’s ProBook x360 Education Edition is a rugged notebook that features a 1366×768 pixel resolution 11.6 inch display with an Intel Celeron processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
With full Windows 10, this notebook costs $329 but HP is currently selling it for $299 with Windows 10 S.
Acer is selling a new version of the TravelMate Spin B1 Convertible for $299. It features an 11.6 inch full HD display, an Intel Celeron processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It also features a touchscreen. It normally sells for $399 with Windows 10.
You can expect more Windows 10 S machines to hit the market in the coming months. Microsoft has said that prices will be as low as $189.
